Whiskey Barrels were the inspiration for this piece. "Cooperage" is the construction of conical vessels with wooden"staves".
Staves usually have straight edges that are angled to inwards to the center of the vessel. I had the idea to try to construct a vessel or enclosed form in this case that would attempt to use staves that featured curved seams or joints instead. The resulting light/shadow effect visible on both interior and exterior surfaces was an exciting discovery from the process. This piece was featured in Lark Books "500 Cabinets".
